Complaining

As I opened the food that was just delivered, I hoped that something was wrong. I saw there was cabbage inside and I even double checked the order cause I thought I asked for no cabbage (even though the cabbage was delicious and definitely improved the dish).

If I could find something wrong, that would mean I could complain, and that would likely get some free credit for my next meal. How crazy is it that I was hoping there was something wrong?

That seems to be the general grooming we've had in a generation of reviews and online shaming and 'having it easy' - we're rewarded when we complain. And therefore it's no wonder we complain so much - we're pavlovian dogs fed by customer support reps.

But that seems like a miserable way to live, even if you do get a free side next time. I wonder how much happier I (and others) would be if I hoped that things went right, and was grateful when they did, and even when they didn't. To choose rather than to look for the small thing that was an issue but to choose to disregard it.
