Focus
I got finally got noise cancelling earbuds. I know, I'm behind the trend but wow was it an experience walking down the road, hardly hearing the outside world. Bikes whizzed by me with no warning, and the world faded away. It was just me and my podcast.
I started wondering if this would help with focus. Blocking out the 'other' and having 'less' input. But then how can the people constantly with earbuds in their ears be considered the 'distracted generation'.
It seems like focus on one specific thing can sometimes be the definition of distraction. Like when you are only looking at your phone instead of the red traffic light and other cars. Like when solely focusing on one project or one employee can lead to failure of the greater business.
Could focus actually be taking in the multitude and distraction be the single minded pull to one exclusive task? Even when I am in 'focus' mode, I at least have music, water, coffee and vape to accompany my journey of productivity (I have them while I write this.)
So could focus actually be the broadening of your input, rather than reducing it?
