Nationality
I got my Israeli ID card today. I wonder if I am now an 'Israeli'.
In a way, I am as Israeli as anyone else. I can vote and have the rights of an Israeli. I live here and work here and speak (although not perfectly) the language.
But in a way I am not Israeli at all. There are Israel families in South Africa that have kids that were born in and lived in South Africa their whole lives that I consider more 'Israeli' than me.
In a way a nationality is not an ID card at all, but a set of values, culture, even physical features, that set you as a part of a group. In this way possibly only my grandchildren or great-grandchildren will become pure 'Israeli' while the others will always be mudbloods.
I wonder if I will ever feel more Israeli than South African, and what will make the shift.
