Primitive

We have lost our connection with nature. We're now plagued by many of the manmade issues caused as a result of this escape, microplastics in our bodies being one of the latest worries.

Paul Rosolie describes the simplicity of one truth: survival. A calming, grounding way that if you don't get water soon, you will die. A feeling of fitting in place, going back to how humans lived and what our bodies developed us for.

But I wonder how much of an ideal this really is. It seems that living like animals - eat, play, reproduce, sleep - leaves little 'meaning' in the sense of 'progress' and changing the world. The reality, despite being everyone's goal, is most people don't 'dramatically' change the world. (This is a complex topic, and everyone actually plays a part in the world, but this part is not substantively different between living in the jungle or being a a supermarket cashier.) It seems the goal in nature is "staying alive", keeping the status quo, being one with nature, rather constantly looking for 'how can I make an impact'.

Something about living life like this seems severely lacking. That has little 'value' in a western sense. Has a simplicity that seems too simple. It can't really be about philosophy or culture as there is room for those discussions & art in the jungle too. I can't really put my finger on what it is.
