It seems most people assume they're the only one that feels a certain way, thinks a certain way, struggles in a certain way. They think they are different and broken. That others have it all figured out and they're behind or missing something.
It seems that in fact assuming you are just like everyone else is closer to the truth. That your struggles to find meaning and motivation and passion and joy are those shared by almost everyone around you. That what you feel and experience is a window into the shared human experience we all have, and that in realizing that you can come closer to those around you. That leaning into the struggles and sharing them actually brings people together.
Maybe this is one of the reasons we have emotions - that despite having very different lives with very different experiences, the way we feel and think is so similar to millions of others.
I wonder why so many people remain fixated on the idea that they are the only ones struggling. Maybe as an attempt to reinforce their uniqueness in the world. Maybe because they can't believe that others 'stress' or 'loss' or 'dissapointment' is the same as theirs if caused by something different. Whatever the reason, it seems a strong force disconnecting them from those around them, ironically who could be empathetic and supporting by calling on their own experiences of feeling the same.
