Too
Is there such this as an objective, constant definition of 'too much' of something? Or 'too' anything.
To say something is too much is to say there is a perfect amount of something and that is being exceeded. But it seems as a standalone it is meaningless. For example there is no such thing as 'too much pasta' but can be 'too much pasta to fit in that bowl or to keep to your calorie goals. That same amount of pasta may be the perfect amount to serve a family and too little to feed a basketball team to satiation.
I mentioned to someone I am exercising twice a day and they asked if it isn't 'too much'. I asked back what does 'too much' mean, like too much for what. He said the phrase meant very difficult. To which I said yes, it is very difficult, but actually any less would be too little to meet the requirements of 75 hard.
I hold the word 'too' in the same camp as 'need to' - never true by itself and always needing a qualifyer.
I wonder how many people could be limiting what could do or who they could be for fear of being 'too ...'.
